5 Reasons Why Saying Yes Pays Off!

We have these great career plans and we’ve mapped out our path and all of a sudden here comes an opportunity that may take us into another direction. Uh oh...here come the thoughts of “I’m not qualified”, “it’s not upward mobility”, “it’s outside my skill set”, etc, etc, etc. There is a reason an opportunity has been presented so why should you take it?? Here are a few reasons:

Builds Confidence

When an opportunity arises that you feel is outside your comfort zone whether it’s another job or even a task that you feel will stretch you, GRAB IT!! Those feelings of being a bit nervous and anxious are just fear wanting us to retreat to our comfort zone. When we lean into the discomfort and take on the opportunity, it builds confidence! And the more we stretch ourselves, the less anxious we feel and then we start to relish taking on new opportunities!

Learn and Grow

You never know what a new adventure has to offer whether it’s a special task or new position unless you take it! Learning a new skill set is great for you and your resume! The best way to stay engaged at work or any area of life is to LEARN! It may be hard at first and we will probably stumble a bit but that’s what happens when we learn something new. Expansion of our minds and skill sets is a necessity to avoid boredom and the doldrums at work.

Meet New People

A new opportunity will most likely expose you to other groups of people who can help you in your new position or task and with your future career. The more people you know, the better since you never know who will present other amazing opportunities! Knowing a vast number of people becomes a valuable resource in case you have questions that requires a particular group’s expertise! So if a new opportunity arises involving collaboration with another department or group, GRAB IT!!

People See Something in You

There is a reason someone wants you for a new position or special task. They see something in you that perhaps you don’t see in yourself! They have more confidence in you than perhaps you do! Even if you feel you’re not qualified or it’s outside your skill set, they probably know but TRUST that you’ll learn and grow! You don’t need to know everything to be a great at a new opportunity, you just need to be able to learn and expand outside that comfort zone!

Expedites your Career Path

When you keeping saying YES to opportunity, your career path ignites! It opens up amazing doors and others see that you’re willing to expand which is indicative of a confident person! Confident people go far in careers and any area of life. The more we say yes to opportunity, the more we build our confidence and the more we expedite our career goals and aspirations!

Embracing those career detours allows us to learn new skill sets, meet new people, expand outside our comfort zone and most importantly build our confidence! The more we say yes, the fast we achieve our goals EVEN IF this path has a detour for a bit! There is a reason the opportunity has arrived so grab it! Say YES!!
