March 21st marked the first day of spring which is the time of year that brings renewed energy with the sun shining, the plants blooming, arrival of outdoor events and the time for spring cleaning! It’s the time we take inventory of what we need or adds value and what we want to discard to free up space! Spring cleaning is normally associated with cleaning and organizing our home but it’s also applicable for other areas as well!
Daily Habits
With the renewed energy during this time of year, we often review our daily habits that may or may not be adding value. Taking advantage of the fresh perspective and determining what daily habit should stay and adds value and what does not add value can reap numerous rewards! Is there something we can do differently at home or in the workplace to allow more time with your family or create an efficiency at work? Can we delegate responsibility to another? Can we eliminate something all together? Can we combine two habits into one? If we are really committed to changing a habit or routine and see the rewards of our efforts, no matter how small it may seem, it’s oh so satisfying!
Work Place
What does spring cleaning in the workplace mean? It may mean taking inventory of your career goals, aspirations, level of engagement, etc. Are you where you want to be or do you wish something would change? Great! It’s perfect timing to make some changes and dust off those plans, gather the resources or help you may need and remove obstacles in your way! Spring Cleaning may mean reviewing your daily habits or work routine to see what you can eliminate to create efficiencies for increased job satisfaction! The key question to ponder is what is adding value and what is not. If it’s not adding value, then most likely it should be reviewed during spring cleaning!
People
Yes, this might be a touchy subject but spring cleaning also means taking inventory of who brings out the best in us, who we enjoy being around, who inspires us, etc and who does not. Who adds value to your life or work environment? Who does not? Being around people who make us feel good are the keepers and we want to surround ourselves with these folks as much as possible! The people who bring us down, drain our energy, etc need the spring cleaning review. It may include family members, “friends”, associates, coworkers, etc so each may have different “spring cleaning agents” applied but the ultimate goal is to surround yourself with as many people who make you feel great!
With the arrival of the new season and renewed energy in the air, let the momentum help us review what and whom is adding value, what we can change and what can we eliminate all together! A health spring cleaning will always lead to a more fulfilling, rewarding and positive environment!
